On the 80th Anniversary of the Frankolovo Crime, we remember the events that marked the lives of many through guided tours of the museum.

About the Museum of 100 Frankolovo Victims

The Museum of 100 Frankolovo Victims is located in the actual site of the horrific Nazi crime – in Graben, near the village of Stranice in the Municipality of Zreče. It is a quality and vivid display in memory of the atrocities of World War II.

On February 2, 1945, a partisan ambush in the Tesno Gorge severely wounded one of the key Nazi officials, Anton Dorfmeister, who died from his injuries the following day in the Celje hospital. In retaliation, ten days later, the Nazis selected 100 hostages from the prisons in Maribor, Celje, and Trbovlje. They were transported to the Stari Pisker prison in Celje, hanged on apple trees along the road, and then buried in two mass graves. Of the 100 hostages, 99 died from hanging, and one was shot in the back during an escape attempt. The victim was a man who could not bear to watch his son being hanged. The youngest victim was only 16 years old, and the oldest was 64. Among the dead were both communists and Christians.
