The Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism is a national tool for introducing sustainable tourism into the operations of destinations and tourism businesses, operating under the brand SLOVENIA GREEN. Destinations are evaluated every three years.
It is worth mentioning that this time we were assessed according to an updated version, which imposes even stricter requirements and evaluates the sustainability performance of destinations more thoroughly. Despite this, we underwent the evaluation with a very good result, indicating progress and successful operation in this field. The Destination Management and the Operations of Tourism Companies and Communication categories were highly rated, clearly indicating well-directed progress. The highest rating was achieved in the category of culture and tradition, confirming the commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of the destination. When recognizing criteria in the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism, it is stipulated that in the case of large destinations (those consisting of multiple municipalities), all municipalities must meet certain criteria.
Although we missed the platinum symbol by a hair, which requires even stricter criteria, with two gold symbols, we have set a higher goal for maintaining a sustainable destination. The next step is to develop an action plan for measures for the three-year period until the next evaluation. The plan will be presented to the municipal councils of all four municipalities, further ensuring transparency and collaboration. Together, we are building a sustainable future that will inspire other destinations around the world. Our Slovenia Green Destination Gold symbol is valid for a three-year period until the next evaluation, which is until December 31, 2026.
